22.2.2019 — Mine water conference IMWA2019 is held in July in Perm, Russia. During the conference, it is possible to participate to a short course on studying mine microbes by Anu Kettunen, Teollisuuden Vesi. Additional information and instructions for registration can be found on IMWA2019 website (see link below).

Our microbiology team has worked for years on subjects related to mine microbiology and bacterial populations at mines. Microbial activity has significant effect on different phenomena in various water and raw material streams. Proper knowledge and control over the microbiological state of a mine enables maintaining the processes in desired state. Efficient microbiological control is also beneficial in risk management.
Traditional cultivation techniques are problematic in many ways when mine microbes are studied. Reliable and comprehensive analytical results can be obtained with suitable pre-treatment techniques and DNA-based analytical methods. Anu Kettunen is an expert in the field of practical molecular- and DNA-based analytical methods. The technical basis and practical applications of these methods are explained during this short course.
